Incident
On Christmas Day, while most
of us where enjoying our festive meal or relaxing with
a glass of wine, two volunteers were assisting a family
in Leyland area who had just lost all their belongings
in a fire. Three generations of the same family were
enjoying their Christmas Day when a lit candle set fire
to the Christmas Tree. Within seconds the house was
smoke logged and the fire took a firm hold. The occupiers,
their three teenage children and two Grandparents together
with the family dog had to leave the house while the
fire was extinguished. The Fire Service requested the
attendance of the Fire & Emergency Support Service
that provided a temporary refuge, light refreshments
and access to a phone. Three members of the family had
been taken to hospital so the volunteers contacted relatives
on their behalf and transported the remaining members
to temporary accommodation. Dog food was also left to
the statuary emergency agencies.
